TractionRoad

Why TractionRoad needs to exist

My name is Ben. I’m a developer and interaction designer. And about two years ago I started to take marketing more serious and began to explore different marketing channels for one of my apps.

A runner on a morning road

Spending more time on marketing and communication turned out to be a lot more fun than I had ever imagined. But when I looked for tools to keep track of my marketing work I couldn't find one. I tried simple documents, pen and paper, spreadsheets and project management software. However, none of them worked the way I organized my marketing tasks or didn't have features like reporting.

It’s 2024! Why isn’t this solved yet?

My marketing process is guided by the scientific method, by Gabriel Weinberg’s book Traction and by what I’ve learned about Lean methodologies.

Here is what has become my typical workflow:

  • Brainstorm
  • Make educated guesses and pick ideas I want to focus on
  • Write down concrete hypotheses
  • Design experiments to test the hypotheses
  • Execute and learn from the outcomes

Existing tools are bad at this

A marketing experiment can be lightweight and fast. So if you create a project for each experiment in a traditional PM tool, you pollute your list of real projects with stuff like "Run ads for keywords X".

On the other hand, a marketing experiment is more than a simple task: It might have sub-tasks that you delegate to other people. For each experiment you want to collect metrics—automatic where possible, but sometimes even by hand.

No project management tool implements that flow and marketing or CRM tools mostly focus on one channel—for example newsletters or content marketing. But it doesn't allow you to track alternative channels like community building, organizing a meetup, business development or PR events. What if people neglect channels just because their tools don’t support them?

Introducing TractionRoad

I want TractionRoad to be a headquarters for marketing across all channels. The goal with TractionRoad is building a tool that lets people try out channel ideas and track the results. Ultimately helping them to grow their revenue.

But how?

I know exactly how to build TractionRoad for everyone I’ve talked with so far. But how about you? How should TractionRoad work to help you the most? It doesn’t matter if you’re a single founder, work in a startup, a nonprofit or a Fortune 500 company. Which key features do you need? Which integrations are a must? Which tools do you currently use and what frustrates you about them? Send me an email and let's discuss the perfect marketing tool.
